NEWS BEFORE IT’S MAINSTREAM – Bullets fired at deputies in Pueblo West in the early am

According to Dan Wall of the Pueblo Scanner Alert, Reverse 911s sent to residents on Canvas Dr and Rustic in Pueblo West in the early morning, telling residents to stay indoors due to shots being fired for over an hour.

PCSO deputies were shot at, at about 3:30 am after responding to a call. One deputy heard some ricochet rounds and reported shots going into the ground next to him.

One local said on facebook that he heard on the scanner that an AK Mag and some spent rounds were found and that they had a bearcat out there.

Wall reported that by 6 am the incident was over, that the homeowner finally came out of the house, surrendered and that law enforcement lit him up with a bearcat. He is said to have been hallucinating. may be a Fort Carson soldier, but this has not been confirmed.

“He was telling them that someone had broke in and tried to rob him (and his wife & kids were inside the house) but they said he sounded like he was hallucinating,” said Wall, reporting on what was said on scanners. “They still went in and cleared the house just in case but only found weapons staged all over inside the house and a friendly Pit Bull named Blondo.”

The man’s name was released by law enforcement later in the day. It was Benjamin Chavez, 43, who walked out and surrendered to authorities at 1100 block of Rustic Drive.

The put him in jail for attempted first-degree murder on a police officer, along with several other charges. A search warrant led to deputies finding nine guns and ammunition around the home and yard.
